2nd White Christmas challenge Winner!

Snow

Congratulations to Leslie in Florida!  There was only 1 entry.  It was a white Christmas.  It was getting close, as 12/23 we have most of the snow melt.  Then the 12/24 morning we got around 2-3″ of snow.  Enough to cover the ground.  It was indeed a White Christmas!  Merry Christmas to all!  Congratulations again to Leslie!  I’ve sent the winner a $20 Amazon gift certificate!

2nd White Christmas challenge!

Eric Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 at 12:12 pm

Fun

I’ve decided to go again at this to try to see how it will turn out. Spread the word, last year only a couple of people actually entered. Even though there is snow on the ground, who knows what will happen in 3 weeks.
Will be have a white Christmas? That’s the million dollar question….or in this case $20! I’m putting a challenge out to anyone reading my blog. Will we have a white Christmas? Posted below are the last 3 webcam images from 2004, 2005, and 2006. 2004 & 2006 we did not have a white Christmas, 2005 we did.

To make this fair, here are the rules:

  1. You can only enter once (post a comment with your answer, white Christmas or green Christmas).
  2. You cannot change your answer once posted.
  3. All posts must be done by 12pm 12/24. Posts after 12pm 12/24 will not be considered.
  4. You must provide your real email address, it cannot have me click on a weblink to be added to a whitelist or take action on my part. I will only be using the email to contact the winner before the $20 is sent. You must reply with it.
  5. White/Green Christmas will be determined by my viewing (I’ll post the picture) of the webcam from the website as close to 12pm as possible. If more then 50% of the ground (as determined by me) is white, we have a White Christmas, otherwise Green.
  6. You must agree to have your name publish (not email) in the answer. I will also, if you like, link back to your website (as long as it’s tasteful).
  7. Anyone that cannot agree to the rules, please do not post. Any duplicate posts (if an accident, please email me) will be deleted (both).
  8. I will randomly pick a winner from all correct entries, there will only be one winner.
  9. Family members are ineligible. (sorry family).

This is not an “official” contest or anything, but there is nothing you need to buy at all. The winner will receive a $20 Amazon gift certificate to their email address. If the winner cannot be contacted, I’ll pick another one.

I hope this will be fun, tell everyone about it. Any questions about it, please post those too.

Enjoy and Good luck!

Snow

Well…winter is upon us. A little earlier than past years, but it’s here. Saturday we woke up to about 1-2″ of snow. Had to get out an shovel.

Sunday woke up again to around 2-3″ of now, then most of it melted as it rained.

Yesterday we got about 3-4″, and then overnight we got another 2-3″.  I had to snowblow last night, then again this morning.

It’s been snow most of the day and we could get another 6″ or so. Then Thursday we might have more snow coming. Quite a nice time here. I’ve lived up in the area all my life, so this really is not much snow, when I’ve been through about 2′ of snow overnight. We might have a white Christmas after all!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Snow

Well, today is a nice enjoyable Thanksgiving day up here. We’ve been having almost stead rain for the last 24 hours:

Now it’s changed over to snow. This is actual more “major” than earlier. It’s actually sticking to the grass. The roads still are clear. At some points during today is was snowing quite hard.

There was a Winter Weather Advisory from 4am-4pm today. We may even get more with freezing rain. Hopefully everyone is quite warm and safe inside. Enjoy the Thanksgiving.

First “major” snow.

Snow

Well, the 1st “major” snowfall has arrived. I wouldn’t really say that it was major anyways. We had a dusting, but enough that some of it stuck to things. I’ve attached an eerie picture this morning where the sun is shining through reflecting on the driveway. You can’t really see any of the snow as it melted on the driveway, but it’s still a neat picture.

Warm October

Eric Monday, October 22nd, 2007 at 8:38 pm

Hot

I haven’t much blogged about the weather in a while. The last 2 entries were of the late winter we had in April with some snow. Then also the driest May so far. Now….this seems to be a very warm October. So far we’ve had 6 days in the 80’s. Today included. 2005 we had only 5. I doubt we’ll have any more, but we’re all enjoying this extended summer. Who knows what the winter will be bringing.

Driest May

Eric Friday, June 1st, 2007 at 9:32 am

Hot

Apparently last month was the driest May ever recorded. The airport here only recorded 1/4″ of rain. My weather station only had .204″ of rain. It indeed was very dry. These past couple of days in May we’ve been having 80+ (even 90) days. Hopefully relief is coming soon. The forecast is for rain, but will we see any, and how much?

Happy Easter!

Eric Sunday, April 8th, 2007 at 9:30 am

Cold

Happy Easter everyone!  It’s 28 here, with snow on the ground in April.  The past week, we’ve gotten about 4-6″ of snow.  It does not usually last and melts quickly.  It’s weird to see snow this late and have cold weather like this.  I hope everyone enjoys their Easter.

8″+ snow in March?

Eric Saturday, March 17th, 2007 at 8:56 am

We have gotten about 8″ of snow since last night.  I had to snowblow the driveway this morning, what a mess.  Hopefully warm weather will come back to stay, however the forecast is winter weather until Monday.  We have a heavy snow warning until Sunday 7am.  Enjoy Update NY!

Winter wonderland!

Eric Tuesday, January 16th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Snow

Winter has come in all it’s full glory. First yesterday we get hit with an freezing rain. This caused some missing data in my weather station as we lost power for a while. Then it was raining most of the day. The temperature dropped, so all the rain froze. Now my weather station is frozen stuck. The wind speed and direction have not changed. I’ll have to wait until the SUN hits it and can thaw it out. I spray painted it black so it’ll absorb the heat from the SUN quicker and thaw out sooner. Now overnight we also got about 3″ of snow.

Here’s a photo of the morning freezing rain. It’s hard to tell as it just looks wet, but it’s all ice.

Here’s another of the snow we got. I had to get out and snowblow the driveway this morning.

Enjoy the weather!
